Layered Transparencies

Layered Transparencies

35” x 45” 2005

Cotton netting was appliquéd to cotton batiste with an entredeux stitch, the fabric trimmed from behind the netting, then the curved, see-through netting strips stitched with decorative machine stitching. Transparent organza reverse appliqué diamonds were stitched in the centers of the blocks. Then these blocks were layered over pieced blocks of Japanese taupe shirtings, and stitched together to form a double wedding ring pattern. Simple pieced borders, and quilting which adds another level of circular shapes, complete the quilt. I was very pleased with the look of depth and transparency in this quilt. Machine appliquéd, pieced, and quilted.
