My son's 21st birthday was Oct. 26, 2007.  The phoenix is a meaningful symbol for his life.  I searched for an image of a phoenix to use for this quilt, and found a lovely painting online by artist Marina Petro.  The background fabric was hand-painted, and the rest of the image was appliqued.  Like Annie's 21st Birthday Quilt, I collected letters from family and friends (and pets!) to piece together for the backing.  Doing a pictorial quilt was a real stretch for me.  I love the way it turned out, and so does David!  Image used with permission of the artist.
